Lallianmang Khaute, or LM Khaute, is a 1985 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. A wildlife enthusiast, fond of sangai, Manipur's state animal, since his childhood days, Khaute is contesting on a Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) ticket in the ensuing 12th Manipur assembly elections from Churachandpur assembly constituency in Churachandpur district. A post-graduate in politics and international studies, Khaute, who had been Manipur's director general of police (DGP) since January 2016, took voluntary retirement on December 10 last year to contest in the upcoming assembly elections. The 60-year-old will be contesting agasint MLA and former minister V Hangkhalian of the BJP and five others.
