Thongju is one of the 60 Manipur Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Imphal district. Manipur Assembly Election 2022 for Thongju will be held on February 27 and the result was declared on March 10.
In 2017, the Thongju assembly seat had 30,135 registered voters. Of the, 14,357 were male and 15,778 were female voters. 1.3% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In the Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Thongju constituency had 3 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 21 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Thongju was one of them. The election for Thongju seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Thongam Biswajit Singh defeating Indian National Congress's Thokchom Ajit Singh by a huge margin of 7,301 votes.
The top two candidates split 99.5% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Thongam Biswajit Singh got a total of 16,809 votes, while Indian National Congress's Thokchom Ajit Singh secured 9,508 votes. All India Trinamool Congress's candidate L. Geetaranjan Sharma secured 131 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 63.6%, 35.9% and 0.5% respectively.
In Manipur Assembly election 2012, All India Trinamool Congress's Thongam Biswajit Singh beat Indian National Congress's Bijoy Koijam by 603 votes.
