Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann on Sunday visited Amritsar's iconic Golden Temple ahead of the AAP's victory roadhshow to mark the landslide win in the Punjab assembly elections. In a video tweeted by news agency ANI, both the leaders were seen surrounded by a huge crowd as they reached to offer prayers. The AAP won Punjab with a huge majority of 92 assembly seats. Mann is set to take oath as the chief minister on Wednesday.
Both the leaders also paid floral tributes at the Jallianwala Bagh memorial. Arvind Kejriwal had earlier promised ‘holy city’ status to Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib, if his party was elected to power. "We will take the blessings of Guru Sahib to fulfil the promises we made to the people of Punjab," said Mann who won from the Dhuri seat by over 58,000 votes.
Mann met Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on Saturday to stake a claim to form the government. He will take oath at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. "We will make efforts to provide all facilities to the people from the comfort of their homes. We went to seek votes door-to-door, even in the fields of the farmers. But after we win, parties tell them to visit Chandigarh to get their work done. I want the least number of people to visit Chandigarh to get their work done," Punjab CM designate said.
Mann also said that, in his term, no government offices will have Chief Minister's photos in their offices. "There will be pictures of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
In Punjab, the Congress, bitten by anti-incumbency, was able to get just 18 seats, while Shiromani Akali Dal won only three seats.
