Polling was spread across 16 crucial districts – Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba. Notably, Samajwadi Party supremo and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav battled it out from the Karhal seat against BJP candidate and Union minister SP Singh Baghel.
Voting began at 7am and went on till 6pm. A total of 627 candidates were in the fray in the third phase, while over 20 million people were eligible to vote. The counting of votes will be held on March 10.

Polling officer found dead under mysterious circumstances in Auraiya
A polling officer was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya. His body was recovered from Janispur near a small canal around 2pm.
He has been identified as Dinesh Kumar and was on the duty at Haloua in Dibiyapur.
Police are investigating the death.

Karhal records 56.02% voter turnout so far
Amongst the 19 assembly constituencies going for polls in five districts of Etah, Mainpuri, Hathras, Kasganj and Firozabad, maximum polling percentage was recorded at Karhal which has registered 56.02 per cent voter turnout so far.
SP leader Akhilesh Yadav is candidate from the high-profile seat of Karhal, located in Mainpuri district.
