Total 312 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ghatampur was one of them. The election for Ghatampur seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Kamal Rani defeating Bahujan Samaj Party's Saroj Kureel by a huge margin of 45,178 votes.

The top three candidates split 95.7% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Kamal Rani got a total of 92,776 votes, while Bahujan Samaj Party's Saroj Kureel secured 47,598 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Nandram Sonker grabbed the third spot with 40,465 votes. The top three parties got 49.1%, 25.2% and 21.4% respectively.

In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Indrajeet Kori outperformed Bahujan Samaj Party's Saroj Kureel by 700 votes.
