It was an extremely close fight, with Samajwadi Party's Yasar Shah narrowly winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Arun Veer Singh by a slim margin of 1,595 votes.
96.1% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Samajwadi Party's Yasar Shah grabbed a total of 79,188 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Arun Veer Singh got 77,593 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Sultan Ahmad Khan bagged 33,482 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 40.0%, 39.2% and 16.9% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Yasar Shah outperformed Indian National Congress's Ali Akabar by 2,801 votes.
