Actor Sunny Deol’s much-awaited film Batwara 1947 is set to release in theatres on August 14. A day ahead of its release, filmmaker Ramesh Taurani, who attended a screening with producer Aamir Khan and actor Ali Fazal, shared his review of the film. He praised it as a deeply moving story and said it deserves to be watched “First Day, First Show”.

Ramesh took to Instagram and shared a picture from the theatre with Aamir and Ali. He wrote, “Batwara 1947 is a deeply sensitive, moving and truly humanity-glorifying film that deserves to be watched First Day, First Show. It is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of compassion, especially during the darkest chapters of our history.”
He went on to praise the performances, writing, “@iamsunnydeol delivers a terrific and deeply impactful performance. About Batwara 1947
Helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film stars Sunny Deol as a Muslim man who moves to Pakistan during Partition, only to find a Hindu woman, played by Shabana Azmi, still living in his new home. As tensions rise, he takes responsibility for protecting her while keeping his family safe.
The film marks Preity Zinta’s comeback to the big screen after almost a decade. It also marks the first on-screen collaboration between Sunny and his son, Karan Deol, who plays his son in the film. The ensemble cast also includes Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur.
Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is set to clash with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 at the box office. Advance bookings for both films opened around 48 hours before their theatrical release. By Thursday noon, Awarapan 2 had taken a comfortable lead, with Sacnilk reporting that Batwara 1947 had sold around 30,000 tickets nationwide for day one, grossing ₹81 lakh. In comparison, Awarapan 2 had sold over 1 lakh tickets and grossed ₹3.25 crore from advance bookings.
