Emraan Hashmi has denied playing Mehmood in the R D Burman biopic, clarifying he was not approached for the role.

Emraan Hashmi has rubbished reports of him playing veteran actor Mehmood in the upcoming RD Burman biopic. The actor took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that he has never been approached for the film and is not playing any role in it.

Taking to X, Emraan Hashmi wrote, “Just to clarify, the reports about me playing Mehmood saab in a biopic are untrue. I haven’t been approached for the film, nor am I doing it."

Earlier, it was reported that Emraan Hashmi would play veteran actor Mehmood in the upcoming RD Burman biopic. The film is reportedly set to explore Mehmood’s close friendship and creative association with the legendary composer. However, just hours after the report circulated, Hashmi quashed the claims. The project is expected to go on floors in September.

A recent report in Bollywood Hungama claimed that Akshay Kumar will step into the role of his late legendary father-in-law, Rajesh Khanna, in the film. For the unversed, Rajesh Khanna and Burman worked together on several memorable films, making their professional association an important part of the composer's legacy.

Emraan Hashmi films

Emraan is currently awaiting the release of his Awarapan 2. The film is the sequel to the Emraan Hashmi cult classic that was released in 2007. Presented by Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films, Awarapan 2 has been produced by Vishesh Bhatt and written by Bilal Siddiqui, with Nitin Kakkar directing the project.

The trailer of the sequel shows the makers building on the cult classic while introducing new villains and other characters. Emraan will return as Shivam Pandit in the film. Going by the footage, Awarapan 2 promises a mix of high-octane action, emotional storytelling and a soundtrack that stays true to the franchise’s identity. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on August 14, 2026.
