Broken beds and snakes in the basement are a thing of the past. The Commonwealth Games Village has now turned into the hottest party hub in the Capital.
There’s a pool, a nightclub, a bar, a games area, a spa and a lot more in the ‘international zone’ within the village.
The village nightclub, which has been set up by Noida-based club, Quantum, has a new DJ everyday, and performances by professional musicians.
“We start at 8pm and go on till 11.30pm. The players keep coming and going as and when they want, even after the day’s competitions. The Caribbean players are here almost every night. Once, the Barbados team brought their own music and everyone had a blast,” says Kartikey Bhargav, who manages the club.
The bar adjacent to the club serves only beer and wine.
“The players come to relax, and the atmosphere is chilled out,” explains Lt Gen (Retd) Ashok Kapur, who is in-charge of operations at the Village.
“The lounge is really cool; it’s a great place to meet other players. I made friends with a Singaporean player over beer,” says Glenn Warfe, from Australia.
The 24-hour main dining area has a live pasta and pizza counter, and serves several other cuisines. There’s a snack bar closer to the residential area.
“I was spoilt for choice the first time I went to eat. This is the best CWG Village I have ever been in,” says Indian tennis ace Leander Paes.
“The zone is great; you could get a drink one minute and a haircut the next,” says Rizlan, who is part of the Malaysian contingent.

Beauty expert Shahnaz Hussain, who set up the spa, says, “Pedicures are most popular; some players have also got their hair coloured.”
“Our athletes are happy with the village and its facilities, though the focus right now is on winning,” says a spokesperson for the Scottish team.
