Mallika Sherawat has made men swoon and gasp with her on screen antics, but the man who has managed to sweep her off her feet is director Karan Johar.

“I think he’s the most eligible bachelor right now. I really like him and would love to date him. I think he’s just perfect for me!” said Sherawat, evidently besotted with the 40-year-old Bollywood filmmaker.

The actor, who’s best remembered for her bold roles in films such as Khwaish (2003) and Murder (2004), and her ‘much-talked-about’ Hollywood stints, is currently shooting for Dirty Politics, a film based on the Bhanwari Devi murder case. She has also finished shooting for her forthcoming Hollywood project, Politics of Love, and come August she’ll be seen on TV, looking for love through a new show, Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika.

“I am lonely... I am looking for love. I mean it’s about time I find a companion,” she says, explaining why she’s doing this official Indian version of the popular international series, Bachelorette. “And also, I’d like people to see the other side of me... the emotional and real Mallika that’s beyond all this glamour and sensuality,” she added.

Ask her about the similarity of her show with Rakhi ka Swayamvar (2009) — a similar groom hunting show that was inspired by Bachelorette, and she retorts, “Really? I have never heard or seen any such shows... sorry!”

If draupadi, sita could, so can I: Mallika
Actor Mallika Sherawat wants to revive the ancient age, when she believes India had a much more progressive society, and women were given a choice to select their husbands.

“Draupadi, Sita... all chose their husbands through a swayamvara... opinions of women mattered. Somewhere down the line it all got lost as the society gradually turned more and more regressive. I want to bring back that age and choose my own companion. If Draupadi, Sita could, so can I,” says the actor, who’s all thrilled to be a part of Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika — the Indian version of The Bachelorette on Life OK channel that’ll eventually help her find the love of her life.

So what are the qualities she is looking for in her groom-to-be? “He has to be an intelligent and sensitive man, with guts to break all rules like me,” gushes the actor. And will it actually culminate into a marriage? “Sometimes, even after several years of marriage, people don’t find true companionship, so right now, I’m only looking for a companion,” says Sherawat.
