Oscar-winning Jennifer Hudson decided to give a pleasant surprise to her fiance David Otunga by proposing him on his birthday.
Otunga had popped the question to the singer-actress in September, 2008 on her 27th birthday and Hudson decided to return the favour.
The Dream Girls star presented Otunga, 29, with a diamond engagement ring last month, Contactmusic reported.
The news was confirmed by jewellery mogul Neil Lane, who designed the band at Hudson's request.
"Jennifer wanted to give him something really special when she asked David to marry her. It was very sentimental and romantic. They are really in love," Lane told People magazine.
"Jennifer and I went through lots of different designs, talked about it a lot and she was very open," he added.
However, Hudson had to return the ring to Lane for a refitting as she failed to find the perfect size for Otunga.
