Yash’s bare-body appearance and the film’s action sequences have sparked comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which released in 2023 and became a major box-office success.

Soon after the trailer dropped, fans flooded social media with their reactions. While some praised the trailer and Yash’s gangster avatar, others felt his character and appearance were reminiscent of Ranbir’s in Animal.

One X user shared side-by-side pictures of Ranbir and Yash’s nude scenes from their respective films and wrote, "Yash done PHD in copying and inspiring Ranbir." Another commented, "Seeing this still reminded me of Ranbir Kapoor's from Animal."

Sharing the trailer, one X user wrote, "Yash is going to show Ranbir what a real Animal looks like." However, several others disagreed. One wrote, "This movie will not be 10% of Animal." Another commented, "Just adding adult scenes and nudity doesn't mean it will match the intensity or standards of Animal."

About Animal

Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal follows Ranvijay, a troubled man whose complicated relationship with his father, Balbir Singh, shapes much of his life. Following a violent incident involving his father, Ranvijay becomes increasingly ruthless as he sets out to protect his family and seek revenge.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the film faced criticism for its graphic violence and depiction of toxic masculinity. Despite the criticism, Animal emerged as a major box-office success, collecting over 900 crore worldwide.

About Toxic

Helmed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is a fantasy gangster drama centred on the troubled relationship between a father and son. Yash plays a double role in the film, which also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles. The trailer hints at violence, family conflict, power struggles and betrayal, while keeping much of the plot under wraps.

Toxic was initially scheduled to release in March, when it would have clashed with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2. However, weeks before its scheduled release, the film was postponed, with the makers citing “uncertainty in the Middle East”. It was subsequently pushed to June, but in May, the makers announced another delay without revealing a new release date.

Eventually, on Father’s Day, the makers announced that Toxic will release in theatres on August 26.
