She might be all of 23 and just a few films old (Mr X, 2015; Issaq, 2013) in Bollywood, but Amyra Dastur is grabbing eyeballs thanks to her sense of style. At her home in Breach Candy, she takes us through her walk-in closet.
Style statement: “I am a jeans and shorts kind of person. If I am going out, I would wear one of those with a pair of heels. Heels give a certain contour to your legs, and a butt-lift which looks good. I’m more into tank- and spaghetti-tops than printed T-shirts. I believe in overdressing; I think there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I feel nervous if I’m underdressed. I like being experimental with my looks.”

Colour therapy: “I love white. My stylist wants to kill me because we’ve overdone white and red so much at red carpets and at events. I don’t like burgundy because I feel it will age me, and I don’t go for nude shades since I feel it will wash me out.”
Brand value: “River Island (London-based high street brand) is my favourite and it’s my first stop when I go shopping. I know I’ll always find something for myself there. Among designers, I like Manish Malhotra, Pernia Qureshi, and Amit Aggarwal.”

{{/usCountry}}Cringe factor: “I hate the velvet look that’s going on these days. Any outfit with that material looks like a sofa cover. Kendall Jenner wore a velvet robe at an event and I kept saying to myself, this does not work.”
Shopaholic confessions: “Both my credit cards have a limit. On several occasions, that limit has been maxed, and I’ve had to call my mother. She’s had to go to the bank and give them a cheque so I could access my cards. I have issues. So I do small events and wedding appearances to make the money for these indulgences.”
Stock up: “I’m a hoarder and I’ve got this trait from my mother. I still have a pair of shoes that I got when I was 16. They’re tattered but I still wear them. Jackets, crop tops, and bling dominate my closet. And, I will never part with a jacket that Jackie Chan gave me.”
Fashion faux pas: “Once, someone told me that my bra was visible at an event. It happens, come on, get over it, guys.”
Lavish purchase: “A Salvatore Ferragamo bag. Currently, I have my eye on an Yves Saint Laurent bag. I don’t feel guilty for splurging on this. I feel like I’ve earned it. I spend a lot on make-up though, even though I have a make-up team, that keeps asking what I’ll do with so many products. But I cannot stop myself. I have a lot of lipsticks.”
Jewellery love: “I like rings with precious stones and ethnic jhumkas. I have an entire closet just for accessories. I’m a chunky jewellery kind of person.”
