Bollywood is bored of necklaces that dangle on the cleave. The divas are turning the stuff around on their backs, and earning a thumbs-up from style gurus.

At a recent event in Mumbai, actor Kangna Ranaut, 24, wore a blingy back dangler with a low-cut Armani gown, setting the trend in India.
“The back drop necklace, as it is called, serves as a wonderful accessory when wearing backless or low-cut gowns,” says jewellery designer Rekha Arora.

Jewellery designer Mira Gulati says, “The trend will catch on in no time, I’m sure. Any dress that shows your back will be perfect to flaunt this style.”

Those who like to experiment are also giving an Indian twist to the trend by wearing these with low-cut blouses teamed with saris and lehengas. “A sleek chains with a small pendant at the back looks great on a sari,” says jewellery designer Alpana Gujral.

Young fashionistas in the city, too, are thrilled about the change. “I bought a low-scooped top to go with the back drop necklace. It’s hot right now and makes you look so sexy,” says Aanchal Tiwari, 21, a DU student.

Abroad, however, the style has been around for a while. Last year at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, actor Kate Hudson’s white-gold and diamond Cartier back drop necklace made as much news as her Pucci gown. Actor Ashley Olsen, too, wore a pearl back drop necklace some time back.
