The actor gets all his shirts customised and sent to him from Delhi. That’s how obsessed he is with well-fitted clothes.

Actor Gautam Gulati greets us looking fresh and comfortable in a pair of faded blue jeans and a plain back tee. His house in Versova has elements of black and white, and that resonates in his wardrobe too. Monochrome helps him keep his look classy, he says. He has a peculiar obsession for proper fittings in clothes. So much so that his shirts are customised and delivered all the way from Delhi. “When I was 12, my neighbours used to tell me that Mumbai is the place for me to be in. Because the clothes I wore even back then were unique,” Gulati says.

Style sensibility: “Wherever you go, be classy and elegant. Be the head-turner. I believe style lies in keeping it simple yet sassy.”

Love for shades: “I will never stop buying sunglasses. Call me obsessed, but my life is incomplete without them. But when I think of it later, I end up sticking to just one, while the others rest in my wardrobe.”

Impulsive shopper: “I don’t think twice before investing about a lakh or two in just T-shirts or jackets. I am a brand freak. I cannot do without my Alexander McQueen, Zara, Aldo and Giuseppe Zanotti. I make sure that the quality of what I purchase is bang on.”

For the love of camera: “I make sure I look photo-ready at all times. One should always know what the body needs. I am particular about my screen presence and the things I purchase reflect that.”

Fashion faux-pas: “I remember wearing a green suit with a white shirt for an awards function. As soon as I entered the venue, I saw three others from my team wearing the same combination. Throughout the event, I asked them to stay away from me. Eventually, it became more embarrassing when all of us were told to stand together for a photograph.”

Style Icon: “As a teenager, I used to collect John Abraham posters. Everything about the actor inspires me. Be it his body or his casual-yet-classy sense of style.”

Style no-no: “Never in my wildest dreams would I want to see myself wearing harem pants. I hate it when I see other men wear it. Unless any piece of clothing looks dapper, one shouldn’t risk it.”
