Since a hair spa session may not be possible every time you want to go out, learning a few clever hairstyles may make your hair stylish, pronto. “Some easy ways to master hairstyles can make you look ballistic from basic. All you need is practice,” says hair expert Rod Anker from Kim Robinson salon. Here’s our New Year guide to great hair in a jiffy.

Princess style
“If you have long hair, brush it well so that it is smooth. Now, pull it all down and secure a small section of hair from the top in a fancy, preferably bow shaped hair tie, tightly. You can also create a pouffe on top of the secured portion by spraying a hair volumiser. Leave the rest of the hair loose. The style should give the impression of a half-pony. It works best with off-shoulder gowns, as it emphasises the shoulders,” says Anker.

Straight and simple
If you always wear your hair curly, ditch the boring style and go for a straight and smooth style, which is sexy and elegant. Shampoo and condition your hair (conditioning is important as it closes the cuticles and hence adds to shine), and add a small amount of leave-in serum to keep frizz at bay. Blow dry flat and straight. Your look is timeless, sleek and natural.
