Priyanka Gandhi is right on trend with her own spin on the hottest look for winter — denims and lumberjack checks. The daughter of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi traded her signature crisp cotton sari for easy denims and a boyfriend-fit shirt at a recent event at a South Delhi school, Saturday. Designers and fashionistas say her new look will be seen on the city streets in no time.
“This is college chic at its best. It makes her look stylish yet approachable. The denim and the lumberjack checked shirt — a hit on international runways in the post-summer season — will never go out of style, and I’m sure city girls will follow suit,” says stylist, Ekta Rajani.
“It’s a very free-spirited look, and shows a move towards a new India. The look can be easily replicated by anyone, as it’s not too formal or expensive. It shows how personal style can evolve,” says designer Gaurav Gupta.
Designer Anand Kabra agrees. “The red checks add a burst of colour, and sneakers have always been fashionable. It’s quite refreshing to see someone who’s a very powerful woman, dress so casually and look fashionable,” he says.

Her new hairstyle is also drawing accolades. “The soft curls and the length are not just feminine, but easy to manage. Anyone can go in for it,” says hairstylist Rod Anker of Kim Robinson salon, where Priyanka is rumoured to have got her haircut.
City youngsters, too, are giving a thumbs-up to this look, which is already inspiring their winter wardrobe. “I’m not a very dress and skirt person, and winter is here — so this is definitely a good style to flaunt; it’s comfortable, affordable and trendy at the same time,” says film-maker Shilpi Gulati.
