Sounds of Mumbai inspire Narendra Kumar’s show

The first day of the Lakme Fashion Week offered a tribute to the city.

The murmur of the city of Mumbai, combined with that if the guests seated at Tote restaurant’s sprawling lawns, marked the beginning of this season’s showing of Lakme Fashion Week with the presnetation of Narendra Kumar’s collection.

As some of the city’s well-heeled sat down to watch the show, they found a railway track-printed fashion runway with a compartment-like setting as the backdrop. The local train being the symbol of Mumbai, the designer chose to present a collection inspired by the sounds of Mumbai.

His collection, marking 10 years of his label, showed the designer’s ability to mix structured looks with fluidity again. Structured silhouettes along with fluide draping, a colour palette ranging from beige and cream to lavender, coral and marigold, strategically placed embroidery and a well-edited collection were showcased briskly.

“I recorded sound of the city from various parts, listened to them and made my patterns inspired by them,” said Narendra, aka Nari, at the end of his showing.

His collection had dresses, skinny pants, textured skirts, caftans and gowns.
