Fashion designer Vikram Phadnis will now be the first Indian designer to be showcasing his collections at the WIFW and the LFW simultaneously with two entirely different collctions.

He is known to be a diverse fashion designer. His creations are among those most wanted by film actors for their films. And while several fashion designers still choose to make the India Fashion Week a platform to showcase their talents and head for Bollywood, Vikram Phadnis is doing just the opposite.

Having made a distinct identity for himself in tinsel town, fashion designer Vikram Phadnis will now be the first Indian designer to be showcasing his collections at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) and the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) simultaneously with two entirely different collctions.

“My collection for the India Fashion Week is called Reinvented classics and is completely based on my mobile phone. A Nokia 6300. I am a complete phone addict and my relation to my cellphone is like the toothpaste I use,” he says with complete seriousness.

His collection of 52 pieces inspired by the mobile phone will be showcased at the WIFW on March 24. “I have no qualms in admitting that this collection is by far my best work. Everything that I wanted to put into the collection was appreciated by Nokia. Every facet of the phone, from the screen, the camera, the metallic case and the blue light… all the elements find place in my creations.”

A master weaver, Phadnis says he never follows international fashion trends. “It makes no sense to me,” he says. Pointing to his corduroy jacket he says, “According to the international world the loose corduroy jacket is outdated but I think it looks good on me and I am wearing it.” Participating in all four Indian fashion weeks will be a very demanding ordeal but Phadnis is elated with the prospects that the opportunity brings with it.
