Fashion is not just for the fairer sex. The third edition of the Van Heusen India Mens Week (VHIMW) is proof of the fact. With men today becoming more and more fashion conscious, many designers are tapping the men's fashion market. And this fashion extravaganza is the perfect platform to showcase your couture.

The Mens Week started with designers like Arjun Khanna, Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal, Shantanu & Nikhil, Troy Costa and others coming on fancy bikes - Harley Davidsons, Hayabusas et all - to open the event.

Day 1 show report:

Arjun’s ‘Action Men’
Arjun Khanna’s show inspired by ‘action men’ kicked off the fashion week. The grunge masculine collection was very vintage and retro. The highlight of the collection was dhotis and patialla salwars.

“The collection was simple yet had complex tailoring. I have used many props to tell different stories. There was Batman, Robin and other superheroes. It had a classic yet sartorial sensibility. Fashion is timeless, that’s why I have used vintage elements,” said the designer.

The collection featured pants, coats, shirts, jackets, kurtas and patialla salwars. The colour palette comprised blacks and browns, reds and blues.

The fabric varied from linen to leather and from velvet to wool. A lot of attention was given to detailing of the tailored garments.

Lots of accessories like hats, bags, belts, bandanas and umbrellas were used.

Hit disco tracks like Daddy Cool created a jazzy mood.

(The three-day fashion event will go on till September 4 in the capital)
