Priyadarshini Rao and Kiran Uttam Ghosh to preview their festive lines today, reports Sujata Reddy.

Designers Priyadarshini Rao and Kiran Uttam Ghosh, both known for employing a subtle colour palette and aesthetic design sense are showing their Autumn/Winter lines at fashion house Zoya, Bandra, today. Quiz Rao about the subtle tones in her festive line and she says that it is the order of the day.

“A fashionista who has travelled the world and is aware of global trends will vouch for the warm colour palette. But I have thrown in a couple of outfits in candy pink and limes for those who are interested,” says Rao who slots her new line as her rendition of festive clothing.

Aparna Badlani, co-owner of Zoya, which is celebrating its third anniversary today, says that while the city doesn’t require one to build an exclusive wardrobe for winter, the fashion conscious like to dress up for this season anyway.
“People like to get into the wintry mood. A simple stole, jacket or scarf do the trick,” says Badlani.

Rao admits that layering is not meant for Mumbai winters and suggests teaming dresses with stockings and super-high heels for a nippy evening.

Ghosh’s line has silhouettes in viscose jersey, again, in deep shades like maroons and blacks. With sparing use of Indian elements like embroideries and certain textures, a grunge feel dominates most outfits.

Giving the mantra for the store’s success at a time when suburbs are practically invaded by some fashion house or the other, Badlani reveals that Zoya has refrained from taking the traditional ethnic and bridal outfits route.

“Stocking the usual fare is a money churner but we wanted to position ourselves as a destination for those looking for an alternate palette,” she says.

Zoya has tunics that can be teamed with leggings, saris by Bangalore-based Sutra and the line that Masaba recently showed at the Lakme Fashion Week along with jacket kurtas with churidars stocked for the fast-nearing winter.
