If the older ones are not careful, the new breed of designers are sure to edge them out and take their positions soon. That's what the message given by the young designers at the Defining Future of Fashion: 5 Years of GenNext show on the second day of the Lakme Fashion Week in Bombay on Saturday evening. LFW, which started promoting the young talents right from the first season onwards completed five years of its providing platforms for young and talented designers.

At the show, 10 chosen designers Nitin Bal Chauhan, Rahul Mishra, Rimzim Dadu, Sailex, Aneet Arora, Kallol Dutta, Nachiket Barve, Swapnil Shinde, Kunal Rawal and Anuj Sharma presented five out each that literally lit fire on the fashion runway with expectations and more expectations for the future. No doubt, these are some of the best in terms of talent and creativity that India has seen so far in the fashion design industry.

What was a relief was the absence of Bollywood celebrities on the fashion runway. Expect for Pooja Batra who appeared for a designer there hardly were any either on the runway or off the runway at this fashion week till its second day. Everyone except the shutterbugs probably seemed not to care about it. Shutter bugs as usual waited patiently down the stairs waiting for those personalities who never appeared eventually.

Babita M presented her collection of wearable attire while Chennai-based Vivek Karunakaran came out with his presentation of beautiful clothes, again with a minimalist approach to it. Label by Ritu Kumar showed some of the interesting pret that by I know carry some of the best price tags among designer labels. Little Shilpa and her headngears, while being high on creativity, some what lacked the energy that she usually brings in. Same was the case with Vizion. Their collection that I saw last season was more appealing for me than what they showed this time on the runway, However, it was still very wearable and stylish. Sailex has some interesting evening wear.

Lakme studio's presentation of Arjun Saluja's collection for Catwalk by TIGI was one of the strongest shows on any catwalk that I have ever seen. Arjun's interpretation of structured clothing balanced well with fluidity and sleek hairdos by TIGI's hair experts matched well and the show drew attention from all quarters.
