Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid star, had told his Portugal teammates that winning the Euro 2016 was the happiest moment of his life, and all trophies that he won at club level stand no match.
In a video, shot just after the final, but released four months after it, Cristiano Ronaldo is seen telling his teammates how much he values the Euro trophy.
“I am very happy. This is one of the happiest days of my life. Forget the individual trophies, the Champions League, this one right here is the happiest moment of my life. I have cried three or four times already. My brother had to tell me to calm down and I said Hudo, ‘I can’t’,” said Ronaldo who had often been criticised for being selfish.

The Portuguese forward got emotional, saying, “It is true, from the bottom of my heart, I swear on my son’s life. I am so very, very, very happy. I could repeat this 100 times. I am so happy. This is the trophy that was missing.”
The player, who grabbed all the headlines with an outrageous jump of 76.2 centimetres above the ground, for his header against Wales, was effusive in his praise of the manager, Fernando Santos, and his teammates.
“I would like to thank this man here,” he said pointing to Santos in the locker room. “Without him none of this would have been possible. And then to all the players and staff involved in this conquest. No one believed in Portugal but we made it…. And you coach, all the faith you had, honestly, it touched me.”
Earlier, after arrival in Portugal after the win, Ronaldo had touched the fans’ hearts after dedicating it to everybody including the immigrants.
