Four injured in clash outside Gurgaon court complex

Two groups clashed outside the court complex in Old Gurgaon on Friday afternoon, injuring four people and damaging two cars.

In what appears to be a case of personal rivalry, two groups clashed outside the court complex in Old Gurgaon on Friday afternoon, injuring four people and damaging two cars.

The police said the victims belonged to Jharsa village near Sector 40.

According to the police sources, around 3pm, three cars started following four men travelling in two vehicles -- a Maruti Swift and Renault Duster -- going towards Rajiv Chowk.

Ten men in the three cars, armed with rods and sticks, surrounded the two vehicles. They attacked the four people and broke the window panes of their cars. Though passersby gathered, no one dared to intervene, the police said.

“We were passing by the court complex when we saw a group of people attacking four men with rods and sticks. No one came forward to help as the attackers were very aggressive. The assault went on for around 20 minutes, after which the attackers left,” an eyewitness said.

Later in the evening, around 50 men reached the Civil Lines police station and apologised for the incident. They told the police that the fight took place due to a misunderstanding between the two groups. The victims, too, asked the police not to register a complaint.

“We are trying to trace the men in the three cars. In the evening, around 50 men came to the police and asked us not to register a complaint. They said it was a misunderstanding,” BS Hooda, station house officer of the Civil Lines police station, said.

The incident, which took place a few metres from the residences of several politicians and bureaucrats, led to traffic jam. The area sees heavy footfall every day as several corporate offices, banks, government offices and markets are located here.

“There was a jam here for a while after the attack but soon people went back to their normal routine after police took control of the situation,” an eyewitness said.

In a similar clash between two groups at Nathupur village in June, a man was shot dead.
