Gurmeet Kaur jumped off the balcony of her rented apartment at DLF Regal Gardens on Tuesday.

The woman’s husband lives in Gurugram’s Dayanad Colony and she had moved in to this apartment in the first week of June, the police said.

The police said that the couple had separated and the deceased, identified as Gurmeet Kaur alias Yashpreet, was taking treatment for depression and the police have found a prescription from her apartment which states she was being treated for the mood disorder.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot, the police said.

“Around 5.15 am, we received a call that a resident had committed suicide and a team from Sector 10A police station was rushed to the spot. The woman was lying in a pool of blood,” DCP (crime) Sumit Kuhar said.

Kaur is suspected to have stood in the balcony for a few minutes before jumping down, the police said. A security guard in the society was the first to spot the body. He called his supervisor. The building maintenance staff informed the family of the deceased, who reached the spot and got the post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday itself, the police said.

According to the police, husband of the deceased, identified as Iqbal Singh, was in his house in Sector 6 and was getting ready to leave for work when he received a call that his wife had allegedly jumped from the balcony of her apartment.

Singh, who is a native of Haryana, runs a hardware supplies’ shop.

The body was handed over to the family members on Tuesday evening. Kaur is survived by her husband and two daughters, one of whom is settled in the USA and another in Pune, the police said.

This is the second suicide of a married woman reported to the police on Tuesday. Another woman, 35-year-old Bhawna Arora, hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her apartment at Unitech The Residences in Sector 33.

She left behind a three-page suicide note in which wrote that she was upset with the behaviour of her husband and his parents. The police have booked the husband and his parents for abetment to suicide, but are yet to make any arrest.
