Mercury rises in Gurugram, but rain expected by Tuesday

The maximum temperatures till Tuesday is expected to hover around 33 degrees Celsius, with a drop or rise of one notch, according to the IMD.

The weather in Gurugram has been fluctuating over the last few days, as the maximum temperature has risen since Wednesday. However, the city is likely to get some respite with light spells of rain forecast by Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature increased from the 30-32 degrees Celsius, which had been prevailing over the last week, to around 35 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius, as per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) website - two notches above normal for this season. The maximum temperature remained high, at 35.5 degrees Celsius, on Friday and the minimum temperature was 28.3 degrees Celsius.

Tanya Sharma, a resident of DLF Phase 1, said, “It was scorching on Friday at noon. After stepping out for five minutes, I was drenched in sweat. However, I heard a few clouds rumbling last night. The weather has become so unpredictable now.”

The relative humidity recorded at 5.30pm on Thursday and Friday was 75% and 78%, respectively.

“The sky is expected to remain generally cloudy and one or two spells of rains or thundershowers till Tuesday, after which the rains are likely to diminish in intensity,” said an IMD spokesperson.

The level of particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) on Thursday and Friday was recorded at 46.55 µg/m3 and 49.29 µg/m3, respectively, which is under the safe limits as prescribed by the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. After the rain on August 5, the PM2.5 level in the city fell from 152.37 µg/m3 to 67.8 µg/m3.
