Residents of New Palam Vihar have asked the authorities to fix the road between Rezangla Chowk and Chauma railway crossing, which is riddled with potholes, ahead of monsoon.
“Hundreds of residents living in this area (sectors 109-115) use this road to travel to work. I work in Udyog Vihar too. It is difficult to ride over the potholes. If the potholes are not fixed, we will have a tough time during the rainy season in July-August. Keeping this in view, we have written to Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to do the needful,” said Yasheesh Yadav, a resident of Mahindra Aura in New Palam Vihar.
The road is 30 metres wide and divides sectors 1 and 2. This road is used to commute from sectors 21, 22, 23 and Palam Vihar to New Palam Vihar and Bijawasan.
Sunil Yadav, a former president of the residents’ welfare association (RWA), Palam Vihar, said, “This is a government road and the GMDA should maintain it. However, the GMDA has been doing nothing despite our repeated requests. We wrote a letter to the GMDA last June to repair this road, which was not been repaired in the last 10 years.”
The latest letter was sent to GMDA on Thursday.
Members of defence service officers’ institute (DSOI), a club of defence personnel located on this road, 100 metres from Rezangla Chowk, also took up this issue with the GMDA two months ago.
“Our members keep complaining about the bad condition of the road to the governing body of the club. That was the reason we sent our representatives to meet GMDA officials in February, requesting for repair work at the earliest, as monsoon is approaching. Till date, there has been no progress. The rainy season is approaching and the stretch will turn into a water body due to waterlogging,” said AK Mathur, member secretary, DSOI.

{{/usCountry}}Traffic volume on this road has increased in the past three years, with residents moving into their properties in new sectors along Dwarka Expressway, thereby, increasing traffic movement between Delhi and Gurugram.
Jitender Mittal, chief engineer GMDA, said, “I have received requests from residents to repair this road, but there are technical issues regarding ownership of this road that need to be resolved. It will be sorted out soon.”
