The police have arrested a 35-year-old man and recovered from his possession 4,239 mobile phones, worth ₹87 lakh, allegedly stolen from the warehouse of an electronics company in Sector 12 in May.

The accused, identified as Ramesh alias Bablu, is the alleged kingpin of a gang that would steal electronic goods from India and sell them in Nepal through a network of aides in the border regions.
Ramesh, a resident of Motihari in Bihar, was allegedly involved in 27 cases of theft and snatching. The police said the accused and his accomplices—three of whom were arrested in May and August—are all history sheeters. They were earlier arrested by the Delhi Police for their involvement in snatching and theft cases, but they do not have a record with the Gurugram police.
According to the police, on the night of May 18, the gang targeted a warehouse in Sector 12 and fled with cartons of packed mobile phones, washing machines and other electronic equipment. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Gurugram Police, Sector 17, was handed over the investigation, following which they arrested Ramesh’s first aide on May 18 and the second aide, Aliyas Miya, on August 6.
CIA in-charge Narender Chauhan said though they recovered only one mobile phone from Aliyas, he revealed the names of three other accomplices, including the alleged kingpin—Ramesh.

According to the police, the accused said members would recce a particular area and then steal the goods. The accused used to plan the heist a day earlier and contact a transporter, who would send the truck to the given location, the police said.
“The gang members used to take the truck from Gurugram to Bihar and then route it to Nepal. We are looking into who all were involved in the operations. We will also contact the Nepal Police to crack down on the chain of people involved in these cases,” Chauhan said.
“The accused revealed that they used to sell the goods, including electronics, in Nepal with the help of their aides in bordering areas,” assistant commissioner of police Shamsher Singh said. According to Singh, the stolen goods were recovered after Ramesh revealed that he had kept the boxes at his friend’s house in Motihari.
A team of four CIA officials raided that house, recovered the stolen goods and got it to Gurugram on Friday morning.
Ramesh was produced in the court and was sent to Bhondsi Jail for 14 days.
