Top cop takes stock of New Year security plans

Gurgaon has been the most sought-after spot for revellers and party-goers in Delhi and other NCR towns and security in the area was a major drawback.

On Thursday, Haryana DGP SN Vashishth reached Gurgaon to take stock of the security arrangements for the New Year. The DGP, who interacted with the Gurgaon police commissioner KK Sindhu, DCPs, ACPs and SHOs, also announced reinforcement of 400 cops and nine ACP ranking officials in addition to 600 cops already dispatched for Gurgaon.

The city police have deployed mounted personnel and prison vans on major areas along the MG Road. The cops will be armed with dragon lights and PCR vans will be fitted with LED blinkers. Policemen on motorcycles will patrol sensitive areas starting Friday evening till December 31.

Anil Rao, the joint commissioner of police, said the presence of the police force and equipment, especially on MG Road, would be amply felt from the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

According to Surinder Pal, DCP (west), staring from Friday, the prison vans would be deployed at the toll plazas of Gurgaon expressway. He said, "All across Gurgaon, the additional force would be deployed on the barricades to be erected on all major entry and exit points on the border sharing with the neighbouring districts. The suspects would be detained on the spot for interrogation."
