Fitness and a Bollywood career go hand-in-hand, but is it really hard to follow an actor’s exercise regimen? Apparently not. This No TV Day, start getting fit as Arjun Kapoor tells us you how he got himself on track and shed over 50 kg by walking in Bandra’s Joggers’ Park, among other things.

Long before he entered filmdom with Ishaqzaade (2012), Arjun used to love burgers and pizzas. The self-confessed foodie was overweight and decided to get fit for more reasons than one.

"Every day, we put our bodies through hell and eat a lot of junk food. We don’t rest enough. Most of us have jobs where we sit on chairs through the day. Not only do we get neck and back problems, but we also put pressure on our stomach. We have to change our mindset and need to look forward to hitting the gym, going for a walk or playing a sport. The key is to find something that you truly enjoy," says the youngster, while stressing on the need to step outside.

Arjun went from fat to fit, but it took time and effort. "You can’t say, ‘Mein teen mahiney workout aur diet karke patla ho jaaunga (I’ll work out and diet for three months to slim down) and then I will enjoy life’. It doesn’t work like that. It’s a continuous process," he adds.

Yuvraj Singh's fitness tips

The 28-year-old actor recalls that his regimen initially included walking for an hour, and eventually graduated to running and going to the gym.

"I used to go to Joggers’ Park and did rounds for one hour since that’s something I enjoyed and could do easily. You have to find something that you enjoy doing. After four years of doing that, I was able to run ferociously in front of the camera and match Ranveer’s (Singh, co-star) speed in Gunday. He is thin, agile and fast," laughs Arjun, who admits that he had to learn to run for the film, but with regular practise he was able to match his best friend’s speed by the end of the film’s shooting.

Ask him what prompted his fitness agenda besides the obvious professional requirements, and he says, "It was because I started feeling like I was missing out on a lot of things in life because I was fat. Dating, for example, or wearing good clothes. Everything that you, as a 20-year-old, feel that you should be doing at that age. I wanted to feel better about myself, plus, I wanted to pursue acting professionally. You can’t be fat and unhealthy if you want to be an actor."
