How much do you know about a Caesarean section?
Myth: Caesarean section procedure is safer than a vaginal birth.
Fact: Vaginal birth is as safe for mothers and babies. Although caesarean section is considered safer now than in the past, it is a major abdominal surgery and poses extra risk for mothers and babies in comparison with vaginal birth.
Myth: Planning the baby’s birth and choosing to have a caesarean procedure is the best option.
Fact: A planned caesarean is very convenient for busy hospitals, vaginal birth is far safer overall for mothers and babies.
Myth:Once a caesarean, always a caesarean.
Fact: After one c-section, VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) is widely accepted as appropriate and safe. However, after two or more caesareans, it is common policy for a mother to be scheduled for a planned caesarean since the risks of caesarean scar rupture increase with the number of caesarean operations.
Myth:You shouldn’t exercise after a C-section.
Fact: False. Light exercises like pelvic floor exercises, abdominal exercises or walking are helpful and aid post-birth recovery. However, it’s best to rest for six weeks after a caesarean section before you start exercising.
