Deadpool 2 pulls a Titanic, gets Celine Dion to sing theme song. Watch
If your movie is going to have a theme song, who better than Celine Dion to perform it? Deadpool 2 just pulled a Titanic.
Now that Avengers: Infinity War is out of the way and Solo: A Star Wars Story is still a few weeks away, the marketing for Deadpool 2 ramps up, giving us a taste of the trailblazing promotions that made the first movie a big hit even before it was released. Theme songs used to be a major part of film promotions a decade ago, and if the Deadpool team wants to bring them back, there’s only one person right for the job: Celine Dion.
The Academy Award-winning singer of My Heart Will Go On from Titanic has performed a new ballad for Deadpool 2, and the music video was shared online by star Ryan Reynolds on Twitter. “Showtime, Mama. #EffortMaximal #Deadpool2,” the star captioned the video.
In the video, we hear Dion’s iconic voice, as she sings on a stage. Backstage, Deadpool is preparing himself to perform a dance in high heels - which he does. As Dion reaches a crescendo, Deadpool pirouettes gain pace, as he swirls and twirls around the Canadian superstar.
As she collapses from the effort, Deadpool yells from the stands, “Celine! That was amazing. That was the most beautiful performance I’ve ever seen in my life.”
“Thank you so much,” Dion replies, but Deadpool cuts her off. “We need to do it again,” he says, “because it’s too good. This is Deadpool 2 not Titanic. You’re at an 11 and we need to get you down to a five, five-and-a-half.”
“Listen,” Dion says in an annoyed tone. “This thing only does 11, so beat it, Spider-Man.”
Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch and is scheduled for a May 18 release. The film will introduce fans to the X-Force.
