The film centres on Ajatashatru Rathod (Dhanush) and his unexpected journey from the slums of Mumbai across oceans to Europe. He plays the role of a street magician in the film. Based on the novel by Romain Puertolas titled The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, the film also stars Berenice Bejo and Erin Moriarty in pivotal roles.

The film shot in India, France, Italy and Libya and has music composed by Nicolas Errèra. Dhanush had promoted the film at Cannes 2018 and also released the poster for India. It was here that the actor said he was unhappy about the film releasing later in India. He also said that as a director he learnt the importance of working on the script during the stages of pre-production itself.
