The first reviews for Fifty Shades Freed, the third and final film in the much-ridiculed erotic romance series, have been shared, and keeping with what has become a trend with these movies, they’re unanimous in their negativity.
Just a few days after Marvel’s Black Panther debuted to a 100% score on review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, Fifty Shades Freed has opened its account with an 8% score with 13 reviews counted. The film opens in US theatres on Friday.
Both the previous films in the series were met with negative reviews. Fifty Shades Of Grey is at 25% and Fifty Shades Darker is at 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Sun reports that the UK press was not allowed to see the film until the very last minute, presumably to keep the bad reviews at bay.
Of the 13 reviews in so far, only one is positive, and that too has its tongue in its cheek. “Finally, the Fifty Shades phenomenon has yielded a disarming comedy that makes this ridiculous material fun to watch,” writes IndieWire’s Manuela Lazic.
Meanwhile, Variety’s Guy Lodge writes, “A sex-free, PG-13 version of “Freed” could be cut without shedding a second of narrative coherence, such as it is; one could ask what the point of that would be, though similar queries might be levelled at the film as it stands.”

Neither of the other Fifty Shades movies was released in India, and chances of getting Fifty Shades Freed don’t seem too bright either. The film is directed by James Foley and stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in the lead roles.
