It was a race that was too close to call until the very last moment. Jurassic World and Marvel's The Avenger's were neck and neck and then the news came in. The Avengers still reigned supreme atop the list of biggest opening weekends ever. Their $207 million opening weekend just about beat Jurassic World's $204 million.
The suits at Marvel must've breathed a sigh of relief, but they knew the numbers were just estimations and not actuals.
A day later, it was reported that Jurassic Park had indeed claimed the number 1 spot.
The reboot of Steven Spielberg's classic franchise earned a monumental $209 million debut in the US and $524 worldwide to score the most successful opening of all time.
Marvel's premature celebrations were cut short. But the way they chose to respond is curiously endearing: Marvel Studio chief Kevin Feige tweeted a congratulatory picture which shows their friend Chris Pratt riding atop a dinosaur, the all-conquering movie star that he has become, as The Avengers look on, dejected.
Pratt's presence in the Marvel Universe must've made the bitter pill slightly easier to swallow, but if Entourage is anything to go by, that number 1 spot is all that anyone cares about. Remember Aquaman?

But even with such huge numbers in play, little touches like this make Hollywood seem like a much simpler place, where movies are movies and not huge business ventures. These are kind of simple gestures that are reminiscent of a more innocent time.
