American actor Owen Wilson, who will be returning as the voice of Lightning McQueen’s character in the third Installment of popular animated film franchise, Cars, relates a lot to his character in the film.

“We both really want to dig deep and rev ourselves up. We both say, ‘I am speed’ to prepare for big events. If I were a car, I’d probably want to be a race car, but with two kids now, I’m probably more station wagon,” he says.
In Cars 3, Wilson’s Lightning McQueen is looking to get back in the game and seeks guidance from young race technician, Cruz Ramirez. The idea of mentorship resonated well with Wilson who is father to two boys — Finn and Robert. “As parents you try to teach your children,” he says.
“You want them to learn the lessons you’ve learned along the way and hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls. I think it applies to the world of Cars. One of the most important things in life is finding those mentors,” he adds.
Finding the right mentors is important according to the Marley and Me actor, who says he was lucky enough to find them when he started his acting career. “For me, when I was just starting out, it was (filmmaker) James L Brooks. He brought (filmmaker) Wes Anderson and me out to Los Angeles and produced our first movie (Bottle Rocket, 1996). He worked with us for a year on the script. To have somebody like that take the time to help us get that movie made—it made all the difference in our lives,” he says.
