Vijay Mallya’s presence at the stands during the Indian cricket team vs Pakistan cricket team ICC Champions Trophy match on Sunday, created quite a furore in the media and social media alike. The businessman was more than sarcastic reacting to the ‘sensational media coverage’, saying he intends to attend the rest of the Indian team’s matches and cheer for them.

“Wide sensational media coverage on my attendance at the IND v PAK match at Edgbaston. I intend to attend all games to cheer the India team,” tweeted Mallya after the India vs Pakistan match.
He is out on bail in England and was spotted at the VIP stand enjoying the marquee match at Edgbaston, cheering for Virat Kohli and Co.
Interestingly, Kingfisher, the beer brand owned by Mallya’s United Breweries, is the exclusive lager supplier for the ICC Champions Trophy. Kingfisher supplies lager for the three venues of the tournament -- Edgbaston in Birmingham, The Oval in London, and the SSE Swalec Stadium Cardiff . They are also the sole lager supplier at the ICC Champions Trophy Fan Park.

{{/usCountry}}The 61-year-old Mallya was arrested by the British authorities in April on India’s request for extradition related to a Rs. 900 crore loan default case of IDBI Bank that is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI has two cases against him--one related to the IDBI Bank case and the other related to a loan default of over Rs. 6,000 crore filed on the basis of a complaint from a State Bank of India-led consortium.
Mallya, however, was released on bail within hours by a London court.
Mallya, whose now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines owes more than Rs. 9,000 crore, including interest to various banks, fled India on March 2 last year.
