The deceased have been identified as Sheoram, 55, and Sona Devi, 42. After committing the crime, the accused, Vishal, fled the spot but was nabbed by the police.

Kurukshetra SP Rajesh Kalia said, “The accused has been arrested and the reason behind the murder has not been ascertained so far. However, in preliminary investigation, it was found that he was a drug addict and under the influence of liquor when the incident occurred.”

The SP said that the bodies were sent to Kurukshetra civil hospital for postmortem and further investigation was going on.

Suresh Kumar, a resident of the village, said that Vishal was the only son of the deceased while his elder sister was married. “He was a drug addict and used to harass his parents everyday. But nobody could ever expect that he could kill them so mercilessly,” Kumar said.

He further said that around 5pm, Vishal murdered his mother using an axe and later killed his father too. The villagers said that the accused generally remained away from home.

Meanwhile, Shahbad police station in-charge Malkeet Singh said the police has received a complaint but investigation was going on.
