26 killed, 31 injured in separate road accidents in Rajasthan

Expressing grief, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje said road accidents can be curbed by strictly following traffic rules and safe driving.

Twenty six people were killed and around 31 injured in two separate road accidents in Rajasthan on Wednesday night.

In Bhilwara, 13 people including seven women and three children died and over 27 were injured near Vijay Nagar crossing under Badnaur police station at around 10.30pm when a tractor trolley carrying members of a Gujjar family collided with a truck carrying sacks of powder.

The family hailed from Bajunda village near Asind town and was returning home after attending a marriage ceremony in nearby Gopalpura village, the police said. Of 13, nine died on the spot, two died at Asind government hospital and two in Bhilwara.

The deceased have been identified as Rukma (60), Lehri (56), Jeti (50), Kali (35), Sohni (30), Laxmi (25), Kamla (45), Seema (10), Ramdev (11), Madan (6), Dinesh (10), Devi Lal (25) and Dhanna Singh, driver.

The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their family members after post mortem. The injured are being treated at government hospital in Bhilwara, Asind and four have been referred to Ajmer.

In another accident, 13 died and four were injured when a truck rammed into a private bus plying from Maharashtra to Jodhpur near Paladi village in Sirohi district, Rajasthan. The drivers of the bus and truck got into a heated discussion over the incident following which the passengers of the bus stepped out. Meanwhile, another truck hit the passengers on the road.

Expressing grief, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje said road accidents can be curbed by strictly following traffic rules and safe driving. She appealed people to come forward and offer help in such situations.

The district administration has released Rs 50,000 each to the family of the deceased and Rs 10,000 to Rs 5000 to the injured.
