5 killed as BSF Jawan opens fire in Amritsar Khasa headquarters

The BSF jawan allegedly opened fire with his duty weapon. Police said that the jawan who resorted to the firing was also killed in the incident.

AMRITSAR: Five jawans of the border security force (BSF) were killed in a firing opened by a constable with his duty weapon in Amritsar’s Khasa headquarters on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at around 10:15 am when the accused was present in a barrack of the headquarters situated on the Amritsar-Attari Road.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP-Amritsar rural) Deepak Hilori has confirmed that they have got the information of “five casualties” from the BSF officials.

“We are also informed that the jawan who resorted to the firing has also been killed,” he said, adding that their teams were working to identify the victims.

BSF officials said constable Setteppa SK of ‘B’ Coy 144 Battalion started firing on his fellow members in the GF and the ORS barracks of the Khasa headquarters. “He also fired on the vehicle of Satish Mishra, officiating commandant of 144 battalion,” an official said. It was not yet confirmed if the officiating commandant was also injured in the incident.
