Ahead of Oct 2 protest, CJP's Abhijeet Dipke detained briefly in Mumbai after being spotted with placards near Marine Drive
The CJP is holding a protest in Mumbai on October 2, seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was briefly detained by Mumbai Police after he was allegedly spotted with placards near Marine Drive on Thursday, news agency PTI reported.

Dipke's detention comes ahead of the CJP's protest in Mumbai on October 2, 2026, seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP announced the protest after a report emerged about alleged differences within the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The CJP, a youth-led satirical movement, has put forward three demands, which include Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and initiation of criminal proceedings against, pause on the SIR and restoration of the January 2025 voter list and repealing of the 2023 law and reform the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has denied permission to the CJP to hold its protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. However, the CJP has said it will proceed with the demonstration despite the lack of permission.
Mumbai Police said it was “not empowered to grant permission” for gatherings at Shivaji Park in accordance with a 2013 Bombay High Court order. The police have also cited rules governing gatherings, traffic and noise concerns.
