Women across India are posting photos of themselves out at midnight with the hashtag #AintNoCinderella on Twitter - after a BJP leader questioned why a woman who was stalked in Chandigarh was out late at night.
Varnika Kundu, 29, daughter of senior Haryana-cadre IAS officer VS Kundu, has said she was chased and almost kidnapped by two men while driving home in Chandigarh around 12:30am on Saturday.
The accused were identified as Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Shubhash Barala, and Ashish Kumar.
Following the incident, Ramveer Bhatti, the area vice-president of the BJP, said, “The girl should not have gone out at 12 in the night. Why was she driving so late in the night? The atmosphere is not right. We need to take care of ourselves.”
