A paramilitary jawan was arrested in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday for allegedly harassing a woman passenger from Meghalaya during a train journey on February 17, police said.
Simson, a 32-year-old jawan with the Assam Rifles, was taken into custody on Sunday night from Ernakulam. His arrest was recorded on Monday morning in Thiruvananthapuram after the woman identified him, police said.
The woman in her complaint said she was assaulted and verbally abused by the man, who was in an inebriated state, during the journey in the second AC compartment of the Guwahati-Thiruvananthapuram Express on February 17.
The man had alighted at Ernakulam, while the woman, who was travelling to Thiruvananthapuram, filed the complaint with railway police after reaching the Kerala capital.
A case on charges of assault or criminal force on a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty has been registered against Simson.
The incident comes close on the heels of the alleged abduction and harassment of a popular Malayalam actress in Kochi.
