The Mumbai girl, who miraculously escaped death after being hit by a train, has said she was listening to music when the incident happened at the Bhandup railway station last month and asked people not to use earphones while waiting for trains, a report said.
Pratiksha Natekar was crossing the tracks on May 13 when a goods train ‘ran over’ her but she survived with just minor injuries. A video capturing the chilling moment was widely circulated on social media, with many calling her the ‘miracle’ girl.
In an interview with NDTV, she urged people not to wear earphones while using the railways and cross the tracks on foot overbridges.
“I would appeal to everyone to not plug in earphones while using the railways. Don’t use headphones while boarding a train or waiting for a train,” the 19-year-old told NDTV on Thursday.
Crossing or trespassing the railway lines is a punishable offence. Violation of this rule could fetch a hefty fine or imprisonment under section 147 of the railways act.
Although the law is not clear about the use of earphones, the police repeatedly warn citizens to avoid this dangerous habit.
