The BJP’s Rajasthan unit president Madanlal Saini said on Friday his statement about Mughal emperors Babur and Humayun while speaking about the alleged lynching of a Muslim man by suspected cow vigilantes was a mistake and accused the media of blowing it out of proportion.
“Saying that Humayun was Babur’s father was a slip of tongue. I wanted to say that Babur on deathbed had told his son Humayun to respect cows, Brahmin and women for ruling in India,” Saini said during his visit to Kota for the first time after becoming the Bharatiya Janata Party president of the state unit.
He accused the media of being selective in running his statement with historical blunder instead of understanding the underlying sense that even Mughals talked about respecting cows, Brahmins and women.
The BJP leader got his history wrong on Tuesday when he said that a dying Mughal emperor Humayun told Babur that he should respect cows, women and Brahmins if he wanted to rule India. Babur was Humayun’s father and died in 1531, 25 years before Humayun breathed his last in 1556.

{{/usCountry}}Saini is in Kota to oversee the preparations for chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra beginning August 4 from the Charbhuja temple in Rajsamand district.
Saini said there was confusion in the Congress party over their chief ministerial candidate.
“They know no Congress leader is able to ensure their victory in the upcoming assembly polls so they have not announced any CM candidate so far,” he said.
