The Bihar unit of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officers Association will on Friday discuss the need for anti-stress sessions to prevent young officers from killing themselves.
The association is toying with this idea following the reported suicide by a Bihar-cadre IAS officer in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening.
Mukesh Kumar Pandey, a 2012 batch IAS officer, committed suicide on railway tracks in Ghaziabad.
The discussion would follow a condolence meeting, which the IAS Officers Association have organised at the IAS Bhawan in Patna and the Bihar Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday evening.
Principal secretary, forest, and secretary of the association’s Bihar unit, Vivek Kumar Singh, told HT, “Suggestions have come from some senior officers like Ms Amita Paul (since superannuated) that we should talk to young officers under stress and ask them to share their feelings, so that they let out their pent up emotions. The idea is to identify young officers under stress and prevent them from taking such an extreme step.”
Sishir Sinha, development commissioner and president of the IAS Officers Association, expressed shock and regret at Pandey’s death.
Pandey’s father Sudheshwar Pandey and mother Geeta Pandey are settled in Guwahati, where he did his schooling and graduation from. Pandey did his matriculation from Faculty Higher Secondary School,intermediate from Maria Public School and graduation in English honours from Cotton College, Guwahati (Assam). His brother is in the Indian Foreign Service and posted in Moscow.

{{/usCountry}}Pandey was married to Aayushi Pandey, director at Vau’s automobile, a Maruti dealer in Patna. Aayushi, who had left for Delhi, has a two-and-a-half month old daughter. Aayushi studied at Christ University, Bangalore, after passing out from St Joseph’s Convent High School in Patna.
Condoling Pandey’s death Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said, “Mukesh Kumar Pandey’s death is a very heart-rending incident. He was an efficient administrator and a sensitive officer.”
