A case has been registered against dismissed Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav and an unidentified person for protesting at the premises of the district magistrate office in Varanasi, police said on Friday.
As the protest amounted to violation of the model code of conduct, a case was registered against Yadav under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) and Section 147 (punishment for rioting) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), said Anil Kumar, circle officer, Cantt.
Kumar added that advocate Kamlesh Chandra Tripathi had lodged a complaint against Yadav and his supporters as they staged the demonstration on Wednesday even as the Election Commission of India (ECI) was taking its decision on the candidature of the Samajwadi Party’s nominee.
Later on Wednesday, the EC rejected the nomination papers of Yadav on the ground that the former jawan could not furnish a certificate from the BSF, stating that he was not sacked on charges of corruption or disloyalty to the State.
On Thursday, Yadav alleged that the EC’s rejection of his nomination was a “conspiracy” against him.
