Delhi-NCR unlock: Metro commute begins, markets reopen

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a gradual unlocking process in the national capital from Monday in light of the dip in COVID-19 cases. The Delhi Metro has also resumed its services with 50 per cent seating capacity and no provision for standing travel for commuters, officials said.

On the first day of the unlocking process from the COVID-19 induced lockdown in the national capital, passengers were seen commuting through Delhi Metro which has resumed services.

Despite constant announcements at metro stations that standing passengers were not allowed, rules were not followed.

Shops reopened at Karolbagh market on an odd-even basis after further ease in the COVID-19 lockdown.

A shopkeeper was seen offering prayers as he reopened his shop at the Karolbagh market.

After further ease in the COVID-19 lockdown in the capital, a worker arranged mannequins outside a shop at the Karolbagh market on Monday morning.

The Delhi government had also permitted private firms to open with 50 per cent staff.

Traders flocked to market complexes in the early hours of the day to resume work. Some were also seen delivering fresh stock of articles to the shops on its first day of opening after the lockdown.

A trader told ANI, "For so many days we were jobless and had nothing to do. With the unlocking process, we are hoping to work and earn something. We are taking full precautions."
