Gangster Abu Salem threatens to sue Sanju filmmakers for claims made about him in movie

The underworld gangster has maintained that he neither met nor supplied Sanjay Dutt with arms and ammunition.

Underworld gangster Abu Salem has threatened to sue the makers of Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Sanju’ over certain claims made against him in the movie.

A notice sent by Salem to director-producer Rajkumar Hirani and co-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra – besides production houses Fox Star Studio, 20th Century Fox, Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films – alleged that he has been defamed in the film based on actor Sanjay Dutt’s life.

The gangster specifically objected to a scene in the movie where police are shown taking Kapoor – who essays the role of Dutt – into custody for illegal possession of a firearm. “The scene where Ranbir Kapoor (pictured as Sanjay Dutt) gives a confessional statement about possessing arms and ammunition during communal tension around our country in 1993 amounts to defaming my client (Salem) as my client never supplied the arms and ammunition to Sanjay Dutt, as pictured in the film,” the notice sent through Salem’s lawyer read.

The gangster has always maintained that he never supplied arms and ammunition to Dutt. “My client neither met Sanjay Dutt nor supplied any arms or ammunition to him, as portrayed by you in your film,” the notice reiterated.
