Greater Noida woman set ablaze in front of son, husband wanted 36L dowry: Shocking details emerge

A video has surfaced on social media showing the husband and his family assaulting the woman. The footage also shows her set ablaze and sitting on the floor.

A woman was physically assaulted by her husband and in-laws before allegedly being set on fire in a ghastly incident in Greater Noida. The woman died while on her way to a hospital in Delhi on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Nikki, was married to Vipin and the family lived in Greater Noida's Sirsa village. The couple got married in 2016 and the torture began over dowry six months ago, according to a report in NDTV.

Ever since the incident surfaced, several shocking details have emerged of the crime:

⦁ The woman was allegedly set ablaze in front of her minor son. The boy has said that his mother was slapped before being set on fire using a lighter. The police have arrested the husband.

⦁ The woman was first rushed to Fortis Hospital by the neighbours. She was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. But the victim succumbed to the burn injuries on way to the hospital.

⦁ The Greater Noida police have registered a case against four family members, including the victim's husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed the incident and said that the police received a memo regarding the incident from the Fortis Hospital on Thursday evening, August 21.

The police official said that the woman succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

“On August 21, a memo was received at Kasana police station from Fortis Hospital that a woman has been admitted with burn injuries and has been referred to Safdarjung. The police took immediate cognisance and reached Safdarjung Hospital. The woman had died on the way,” Kumar added.

Kumar further said that a case has been filed at Kasana police station on the complaint of the victim's sister. The police have arrested the husband, Vipin, and formed teams to arrest others, he added.
